The best beers in the world: World Beer Awards 2013

Best beer awards 2013

It’s official: wheat beer Primator Weizenbier from the Czech Republic is the best beer in the world.

That’s according to the World Beer Awards 2013, a prestigious annual competition that selects the very best internationally recognised beer styles – including lagers, stouts and specialty beers – from across Asia, America and Europe.

The judging is blind and each beer is ranked by flavour, aroma, its appearance and how it feels in the mouth. The panel of judges, made up of experts from around the world, look for beer with balance, complexity, character and quality.

It’ll come as no surprise to beer lovers that Belgian beers were well represented at the World Beer Awards for 2013, with Belgium’s Lindemans Old Kriek Cuvee Rene and Malheur 12 named the best sour and dark beers respectively.

However, the Czech Republic’s Primator Weizenbier was named the best beer in the world and the best wheat beer. The judges described it as “clean, very refreshing and well carbonated. Good balance of sweetness and bitterness with [a] spicy lingering finish”.
