Beer SpecTAPular coming to Auckland
Auckland hop heads and beer fanatic rejoice – it’s just been announced that the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) is coming to town in June 2016.
Judged one of the best beer festivals in the world, GABS 2016 is set to showcase some of the best craft beer from New Zealand and all over the world.
Top NZ craft breweries Panhead, Garage Project, 8 Wired, , Yeastie Boys, Liberty, Moa, Bach, Hallertau, Tuatara, and Epic Brewing have already confirmed that they’ll be there, with more breweries expected to be announced in the lead up to the event.
Although the GABS beer festival has featured NZ craft breweries before in Australia, it’ll be the first time the GABS beer festival has been held on these shores.
Created in 2012 by Guy Greenstone and Steve Jeffares – the owners of the Local Taphouse beer bars in Sydney and Melbourne – the event has gone on to attract more than 23,000 people.
What makes the GABS beer festival unique is craft brewers must make a unique beer for the event.
Jeffares commented: “This year’s festival beers incorporated everything from peanut butter, rice, spiced rocket leaves, blueberries and apricots to strawberry jelly, with an increasing number fermented and aged in old wine and spirit barrels.
“There’s no limit to what breweries can create. They can submit any beer they like as long as they’ve never brewed it before.”
8 Wired brewer Soren Ericksen added: “GABS Auckland will not only raise the awareness of good beer here but also help raise the profile of New Zealand beer in Australia, which is an important export market for many small breweries.”
As well as a diverse line up of craft beer, GABS 2016 is expected to feature a good number of food vendors and cooking demonstrations, educational seminars, music and other entertainment.
GABS 2016 will be held at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland on Saturday 18 June 2016.
