Infographic: the 20 most popular beers in America
The craft beer revolution may be in full swing in the United States of America, but bland mass-produced beer still reigns supreme.
Check out this delightful infographic by the team over at VinePair to see the 20 most popular beers in America, determined by annual sales. The top five beers in the US shouldn’t surprise anyone: Bud Light, Coors Light, Budweiser, Miller Lite, and Corona Extra.
Interestingly, independent brewery Yuengling makes the top 20 – just – with its Yuengling Lager. It’s the only beer on the list that isn’t backed by a multinational corporation.
Meanwhile, Corona Extra, Heineken and Modelo Especial were the only imported beers to make the list.
If you look closer at the chart, you’ll also notice that it includes the Beer Advocate score for each beer. Any beer with a score from 95-100 is world class, while any beer that scores 60 or below is considered awful by the members of that website.
So Yuengling Lager is the best beer on that list with a score of 78 – which is ‘okay’ according to the rating system. The beers with the next highest scores – Pabst Blue Ribbon, Modelo Especial and Heineken, Miller High Life – all have ‘poor’ ratings.
Everything else is just plain ‘awful’, according to Beer Advocate’s ratings system.
