Keybilly Island Ale Beer Review

Keybilly Island Ale Beer Review

I picked up a six-pack of Keybilly Island Ale at a Winn-Dixie in the Florida Keys because, first of all, I needed something to cool me down in the sizzling summer heat, and secondly, because it was made with Key Lime Juice. When in Rome, right?

ABV: 5.4%

Blurb on the can: An ale with Key Lime juice. Perfect for the beach, the boat, and the bar.

Tastes like: A really juicy beer, sweet, and fruity. There’s no mistaking the lime in this beer for anything else; it positively smacks of the Florida Keys’ most famous fruit, which is no bad thing if you’re a fan of it, as I am.

But where it falls down is that’s all it tastes of – lime, and nothing else. It’s a bit one-dimensional, and I’m bored of it by the third can, let alone the sixth, which I had to save until a few days later because I was just so sick and tired of this beer.

The verdict: At least it’s very refreshing, which is what I wanted it for in the first place. But I’d probably describe it as a fruit beer, rather than an ale.

Fans of Corona with lime might really dig it. For me, though, one or two Keybilly Island Ales was probably more than enough.

Movie/beer combination: The LEGO Batman Movie. Why? Try to follow my logic here… I drank this beer in the Florida Keys, Key Largo is a place there, and Largo sounds a bit like Lego, and I watched that movie on the flight over to the USA. Plus it’s just a lot of fun…
