Karbach Rodeo Clown Double IPA Review

I drank a pint of Karbach Brewing Co.’s Rodeo Clown Double IPA in Houston, Texas, after going to my first-ever Major League Baseball game. Now the Astros are just two wins away from winning their first-ever World Series title. Coincidence? Most definitely.

ABV: 9.5%

IBU: 85

Hops: German Magnum, Amarillo, Citra, Cascade, East Kent Goldings, Hallertau-Mittelfreuh, Sapphir.

Blurb about the beer: It’s a job! And a hazardous one at that. Benefits, you ask? I hardly think so. But the show must go on. So, it’s with bravado that the Rodeo Clown takes his place in the arena lights. Whether or not he’s insane is not important right now. It’s with grit and intensity that the Clown steps in the path of almost certain destruction.

Tastes like: I’m a clown for not knowing this was a double IPA when I chose it.

I could only see the words ‘Karbach Rodeo Clown’ on the tap handle, so I order it simply because it’s a fun name, definitely not because it’s a whopping 9.5% ABV and I’m looking to get shit-faced drunk. I’ve already had two beers at this point!

But I soldier on anyway, and I do get pretty drunk by the way, but not before I fall in love with this beer, which packs a hefty punch. The hops are biting, fresh, pungent smelling. It’s a full-bodied beer, dark amber in colour, with a creamy head that lingers.

The verdict: You can’t trust a drunk man to give you a fair and balanced beer review, and I was getting pretty toasty by the end of this one, to be perfectly honest with you.

I gave Karbach’s Rodeo Clown Double IPA two thumbs up.

Beer/movie combination: Speaking of clowns, I went and saw It a couple of weeks ago. It’s not as scary as you might have heard, but it is very good. Check out the trailer if you haven’t already seen the film…
